USB drives are extremely cool. When I was first starting out in computers and stored all of my information on audio cassettes, I would have never guessed that I would one day be able to store my entire digital life on a device smaller than a pack of chewing gum!

In this series, I talk about my views of using USB drives and some of the best tools available for them. There are five parts to this series.

My Philosophy of the USB Drive

A ten thousand foot view of how I think about the USB drive and the way it should work for me.

Setup and Configuration of My USB Drive

I walk through my unique setup and configuration on my USB drive.

USB Drive Applications Part 1

Development, Internet, and multimedia applications that I run directly from my USB drive.

USB Drive Applications Part 2

Network, security, and system tools that I run directly from my USB drive.

Limitations, Challenges, and Resources

A discussion about my USB drive configuration limitations, challenges that I am faced with in the future, and some Internet resources about USB drives.

If you found this post useful, why don't you buy me a cup of coffee to show your gratitude?

There’s also a cool app at www.curosoft.com that keeps your Outlook contacts/tasks/notes in synch that’s designed to run off of a USB drive… I use it every day instead of a Palm Pilot. Free too…

Cool find, Peter. I’m going to give it a test drive and see what turns up. I have a feeling that I will probably be featuring this as a project sometime in the near future.

    Thanks for the link!
