I am looking at switching cell phone carriers. I called and they asked me to confirm my identity by telling them my “four digit personal identity number which starts with 3″. I could hardly believe my ears. The person on the other end of line, in under a second, took my chances of guessing my personal password for 1:infinity to 1:16,777,216 to 1:1,000. Obviously, there people did not know much about personal privacy.
In Stop Bleeding Personal Information, I talk about some of the most common ways we give up personal information and some practical ways we can stop the bleeding.
Microsoft has released new Windows Vista keys. This means that if you did not get your key back in June and you were previously stuck with a DVD ISO but no way to install it, you should now be good to go!
Everyone is talking about what is the next killer app. I say forget it. I’ve just written the next app killer!
Even if you have the next killer app, I can show you how to stop it (or viruses or any other program) from running on your system with my article entitled Stop Applications From Running.
It provides you with the code and precompiled executable for monitoring the programs that are running on your computer and preventing any application you specify from running. But remember, use your power for good, not evil.

Frequently, people will mention to me that they are not certain whether or not their home system is safe. When I ask them why they haven’t done anything about it, I usually get comments like:
I have nothing important on my computer for anyone to steal.
I just don’t know where to begin.
I can’t think of any way for someone to break into my system.
These types of comments come from one simple fact, most people just don’t know. No, you may not have anything on your computer to steal but what about your Internet connection. If someone connects to your unsecure WiFi connection and runs up a large Internet bill, what would you do? Or even worse, what if they were using your Internet connection for illegal activities such as accessing child pornography? Everything points back to you.
I have written an article called 10 Ways to Protect Your Home Network which provides you with an excellent starting point for securing your home systems and preventing yourself from becoming a victim.
Since this is a very high level article, I am looking for feedback from you, the readers. I need to know what parts of the article need fleshing out as separate articles so that Daily Cup of Tech can become a better resource. I look forward to hearing from you.
