This past week, Daily Cup of Tech has seen a massive outpouring of generosity from several individuals and organizations. The first company I want to thank is AlwaysWebHosting! These guys have generously offered to donate web space and bandwidth to DCoT so that you can continue to receive the articles and posts from here. If you are looking for a new web host or are considering purchasing web hosting for the first time, you owe it to yourself to check out AlwaysWebHosting. And, as an added bonus, DCoT readers are eligible for a discounted rate for the three AlwaysWebHosting packages that are the most popular! Thanks a ton, AlwaysWebHosting!

I also need to thank each of the generous readers who gave up their hard earned cash to help keep Daily Cup of Tech in the black. A special thanks goes out to:

  • Michael W.
  • Chris B. of Egonitron.com
  • Robert H.
  • Austin S.
  • Ken C. of Flippin’ Bits Software
  • Mallory W.
  • George N.
  • Adam H. (x3 plus a donation last week!)
  • Boris M.
  • Stephen R.
  • William S.
  • Duncan C.

Each and every single one of these people has been entered into the draw for the BlackBerry. I will be making the draw at the end of the month.  Everyone who makes a donation to Daily Cup of Tech up to the end of June will be eligible to win the BlackBerry.  See the BlackBerry post for more information.

Also, don’t forget that if you would like me to link back to your webpage when I publish your name in my weekly “Thank You” post, make sure you e-mail me after you make your donation so that I can link back to you.

Once again, thanks to everyone for your generosity.  It  is really appreciated.

…people are willing to put their hard earned money on the line for me. A big “Thank you!” to the following for being willing to donate to Daily Cup of Tech this past week:

  • Robert H.
  • Phillip B.
  • Bradley K.
  • Nathan L.
  • Stuart B.
  • Will C. (twice!)
  • Ken S.
  • Jeremiah M.
  • Daniel L.
  • Adam H.

Each and every one of you has had your name entered into the draw for the BlackBerry. You each get one chance for every dollar that you donated.

If you feel the urge to help out Daily Cup of Tech and show how much you appreciate the effort that I put in each week, help yourself to the Tip Jar.  Or, if your motives are a little less selfless and you just want a chance to win the BlackBerry, that works for me, too.

Regardless of your motivation, all donations are greatly appreciated.

P.S. If you make a donation and you would like me to link to your website, then please feel free to e-mail me after you donate and let me know your URL.  I’ll gladly put the link on for you.

BlackberryIn a post from last week, I alluded that I would be announcing this week about a prize that I will be giving out to one lucky supporter. I did not want to let the cat out of the bag until I launched another program but it looks like that program is going to take some time to get off the ground so I figured that I would let everyone in on the big secret!

While I was at the Midsize Enterprise Summit, we sat in on a number of boardroom sessions with vendors who would talk to us about their products. As most vendors do, they bring along a bunch of swag to entice the audience.

One of the vendors came in with some really nice portfolios and I thought, “That’s a nice piece of swag to take home!” So, I sat through their presentation and in the end, they asked us for our business cards. I figured, “OK, I guess we need to pay for this conference somehow,” since they covered all of the flight, hotel, meals, etc. so I tossed in my card.

I was a bit confused when the vendor tossed all of the business cards into a box and started shaking it and then asked one of the attendees to pick a card. I was even more confused when he called my name (I wasn’t really paying attention), shoved a black and red box in my face and said, “Congratulations!” I must have looked really confused because the guy sitting next to me said, “You just won a BlackBerry!”

Now, here is the ironic thing. I don’t need a BlackBerry because I have a Motorola Q that is paid for by my work. It does everything that I need and I can use it for person things if I want. This was apparent at the conference because the people in my boardroom session immediately started bidding on it, even thought I had given no indication that I was interested in selling it.

When I got back to my room that night, I called my wife and told her the news. She came up with the brilliant idea, “Why don’t you give it away on Daily Cup of Tech?” I knew there was a reason I married her! So you all have her to thank.

How To Enter

Everyone who has donated in the past and everyone who donates in the month of June will be eligible to win a Version BlackBerry 8703e. This includes donations to Release the Code as well. For every dollar you donate (or have donated), you will receive one chance to win the BlackBerry. Very simple. I will make the draw and announce the winner on July 9, 2007. (I’m going to be on vacation that week so I will not be available to make the draw sooner.)

I have included a list of all the people I have on record who have donated in the past. If are one of these people and you name is not listed, please e-mail me so that I can check to see where the problem lies.

Thanks to Samuel C. for donating to Daily Cup of Tech this past week via the Tip Jar.  It is really appreciated.

As a bit of a reward to those who have donated to DCoT in the past and as a bit of an incentive to those who are thinking of donating to Daily Cup of Tech in the near future, I am going to be giving away a very nice piece of swag that I got last week at the Midsize Enterprise Summit.  I’m not going to reveal what this swag is until later this week to coincide with another announcement.  But, suffice it to say, it definitely worth having.  In fact, I wouldn’t part with mine and the only reason that I am willing to give one away is that I already have one!

More details later this week.  Feel free to put in your swag guesses in the comments!

A special thanks to this week’s supporters of Daily Cup of Tech. Both Jogima (Tip Jar) and Martin W. (MedInfo Keeper) were extremely generous in their donations. Thanks so much!

Some might be wondering why these people donated money to Daily Cup of Tech when everything is available online for the taking? I think the reason is much the same as why people give or volunteer to any organization; they believe the organization is doing a good work, often a work that they themselves can’t do, and they would like to show their appreciation to the organization.

It is surprising how motivating it is when I get an alert indicating that someone has decided to donate to DCoT. Every little but is appreciated!
