March 30th, 2009 at 4:57 pmI agree with insomnic. Linux is a fantastic OS, but if it wants a real place in the world of desktop computing it needs work in the UI department.
There’s also no such thing as free. If it costs someone a week of their free time reading documentation and a phone call to their Linux-savvy friend in order to get some piece of hardware working, Windows and its $200 price tag becomes the cheaper option.

March 31st, 2009 at 8:19 amI agree with Tom. Ubuntu is getting better and better, and their next version Ubuntu 9.01 is very good. Sadly, its still not user-friendly enough for Windows users to switch over. Installing softwares and modifying their settings through text-based config files can still be a pain.

April 5th, 2009 at 12:28 amDavid … what text files? I’v been using Ubuntu for the past 18 months (currently at 8.10.11) and I haven’t used a terminal session to install a program yet.

April 5th, 2009 at 12:33 amTom … If it takes a week of poring through documentation and getting dumped on in the Usenet forums, and a call to your tech savvy friend to get Outlook + ActiveSync+Mobile 6 to play well together, then the $200 spent on Windows was wasted, since you could have had roughly the same headaches for free with Linux.
I’m using Ubuntu on a Toshiba laptop and a Gateway laptop and every thing works as intended. I just don’t understand the hardware failures you are talking about.

May 1st, 2009 at 8:02 pmThing about Linux: OSes shouldn’t get dumber. Users should get smarter. Ubuntu’s focus on being user friendly is making is slower each release; now it’s as slow as Windows, so there’s really no point in switching.

November 28th, 2009 at 3:08 pmi think we sould all go with windows, cause soon ill make a new site called www.StopAbusingMicrosoft.com/HelpStopThisAbusment
when i release it, you guys better go there, unless your gonna go with the abused (mac, linux) and become one and appear in the pics, being abused by the abuser (windows/microsoft)
linux IS as slow as mac, like over 9000% slower.
windows isnt as slow as both linux and mac, like its over 9000% faster.so, no, Windows’ focus on being user friendly is making is faster per release.
(do not delete or you will be banned, really)
