March 15th, 2009 at 9:55 pmmy only question would be is why is something like this better than Windows Live mesh or windows sky drive with one having 25 gb of memory and the other having unlimited space

March 15th, 2009 at 10:27 pmumm, Linux compatibility? I use dropbox between my one home windows machine and work laptop (Ubunutu 9.04) and my work desktop (Ubunutu 8.04)
Unless there is a liunx client for either of those services that I don’t know about (which is possible,) I don’t see many ‘nix users using them.

March 15th, 2009 at 10:29 pmNow let’s be real… Did you “arrange” this promotion or are you using an already existing promotion to pump up your referrals & get you extra space too. This a definitely mutually-beneficial relationship.

March 15th, 2009 at 10:58 pmI loved FolderShare (which became the Live Mesh Mess or was it sky drive?), but when they “upgraded” it, it would no longer play with Tiger (let alone Linux, although still had web-access to my files, after a fashion).
DropBox works Win, Mac, Linux just fine.
Plus, DropBox has a really sweet versioning in place and allows for sharing of folders among other users. Pretty sweet deal, really.
Oh, and with DropBox, you’re not wedded to the Evil Empire. That’s GOTTA be a plus, yeh?

March 18th, 2009 at 8:54 amADrive is nice, but, I’ve been annoyed that they now limit sharing a link for only 30 days…
I like dropbox and have begun using it to host files for my blog. It also finds it’s way through my work firewall and just plain works.
I could do without the desktop client, but, it’s relatively easy to disable (remove from Start Menu > Startup). Of course it’s great when you want to upload 30 files at a time.
