Long Lost Drive Found!
Well, it took over a year, but we now have definitive proof that the Lost USB Drive application works! When I launched the Lost USB Drive Experiment in early June of last year, I wasn’t really sure what to expect. I had all but forgotten about the experiment.
So, imagine my surprise when I had this in my inbox this morning:
Dale,I recently took over Costa Coffee Eastleigh and have found your USB Memory stick, I’m not sure how long it has been here but if you would like to pop in and collect it I will put it to one side.
Thanks
Matthew

To be honest, I was a little shocked! But, at the same time, this totally made my day! Just goes to prove that there are some honest people out there and that a little ingenuity can go a long way!
If any of you are in the area of Matthew’s store, go in, congratulate him on his honesty and integrity, and buy the biggest, most expensive coffee on the menu! Way to go, Matthew!
If you found this post useful, why don't you buy me a cup of coffee to show your gratitude?

June 11th, 2008 at 11:09 pmGreat story! I hope Costa Coffee gets lots of business from it. Kind of like sticking a note in a bottle and throwing it in the sea - you never know if or when you will get anything back from it.

June 12th, 2008 at 6:19 amI am absolutely stunned. I started reading this blog yesterday off the back of a link from another site. I spent most of the day trawling the fascinating archives.
Today I pop in for a quick look in the five minutes I have spare between answering helpdesk calls and there’s this post.
Eastleigh is about 5 miles up the road from me and I will most certainly pop in next time I’m in the area. If you don’t mind though I will have tea as coffee makes me sick!

June 12th, 2008 at 7:24 amWow, I’m nowhere close to that guy’s cafe, but he’s really the type of people we need…
on a somber note, from what I read, things didn’t go well with the experiment since not many drives were returned.

June 18th, 2008 at 3:08 amHey I live not too far from eastleigh! I might just pop in and buy a coffee.
Have you picked up the stick, or were you only on a flying visit? -

June 18th, 2008 at 1:46 pmWow, that’s a surprise - I’d forgotten about ‘losing’ the USB key there!
I’ll have to drop by and say thanks!
I wonder where it’s been hiding for the last year or so…

I’ve always had a txt file on my thumb drive that gives that information but ever since I found your script (thanks to Maximum PC or Maxim, I don’t remember) it’s been even better. People around work keep asking for it.
