Stop the World! I Wanna Get Off!
A little perspective is a good thing.

September 4th, 2007 at 1:29 pmInteresting, but there were certainly some poor stats in there. And poor analysis of the stats. For instance, It is unlikely $1000 will get you a computer that surpasses the functional capacity of the human brain in the year listed. Because while technology is available it is not always cheap, feasible, and ready to push to the market.
We have supercomputers that can perform more than 32 trillion calculation per second, but that technology won’t reach personal computers for a very long time.

September 4th, 2007 at 4:06 pmGets me to think; kind of like Thomas Friedman’s book “The World is Flat.” Had my 81 year-old father read that last year so that he could understand the modern working world we’re living in. Don’t think I’ll hear him complain to me ever again about “sticking with something” job-wise. JOBS AND TECHNOLOGY ARE CONSTANTLY EVOLVING; LEARN THE NEW STUFF, OR BECOME AN SDTV REPAIRMAN.

September 4th, 2007 at 8:19 pmThat was a fun video!
Some things I find a bit farfetched… A thousand US$ computer can match the human brain computationally in a few years? Think of professional baseball. The brain is able to judge where that ball is going and swing the bat accordingly, all in no time at all. Would a computer controlled ‘robot’ be able to do the same? What about the guy in the outfield who can quickly judge where the ball is going to land? I’m skeptical. Two things that were right on: What you learnt in your first year at university is already obsolete by the third year… And yes, shift happens.
