I’m not going to rehash the whole story hear because it is everywhere right now but here is the quick synopsis:
A producer from NBC news show Dateline, Michelle Madigan, attempted to get an “inside look” at DefCon by registering as a “human” (regular attendant) and not as media. Needless to say, she was discovered.
She was then provided the opportunity to register as a media representative as many as four times which she repeatedly declined. It turned out that she had a hidden camera and was working as a media representative trying to catch hackers (the media’s definition) talking about their illegal exploits.
She was finally identified to the attendees and she then chose to make a hasty exit.
So, this leads me to my question for you this week:
Got more to say about this than just Yes or No? Put it in the comments for all to read!

One Response to “Human or Media?”

John May Says:
August 7th, 2007 at 2:59 pmI know the idea was to get some covert ops intel, but once she was found out, which from what I understand was even before she arrived at the convention, she should have signed up for a press pass. I guess she thought nobody would recognize who she was.
