Top SecretI received a lot of response from the HowTo Hide Files in JPG post, I thought that I would present you with another way of hiding data. This method is a bit more specific in that it allows you to hide an Excel spreadsheet inside a Word document. The really cool thing about this little trick is that once you have your special Word document created, you do not need to have the program on the computer!

So, to start this off, here is a little video that I put together to show you how what this little trick does for us:

So, how do we do this?

Get the Software

The key to this process is to use a program called Merge Streams. According to the website:

This utility shows you how merge MS Word streams and MS Excel Workbook stream . It can hide MS Excel document inside MS Word document or vice versa. If you wish to transparently hide some important documents inside old financial reports this is for you. It does not implement any crypto and is not secured enough, but like a smart trick.

Essentially, the program layers one file on top of another. Then, depending on which program opens file, the proper data stream is accessed.

Merge The Files

Once you have the Merge Streams program, simply run the executable. This brings up a pretty simple user interface:

Merge Streams Interface

Using the Browse buttons, select your Word and Excel files. Next, click on the Merge button. This will place your Excel file into your Word file.

Note: You may want to back up your Word and Excel files prior to merging them just in case something goes wrong.

Really, that is all there is to it!

Viewing Your Merged File

Your Word file has now been changed to include your Excel file. No changes have been made to the Excel file. To access the Word content, open the file in Word. To access the Excel content, open the file in Excel! It doesn’t get any easier than that!
