TablesAs some of you may have noticed, there was a bit of a problem with the blogroll yesterday and today. It seems that when I was messing around with the database this weekend, I must have deleted a couple of tables! (Yes, I know! Dumb! Dumb! Dumb!)

Once I realized what was going on, I submitted a request to AlwaysWebHosting to recover the two MIA tables. Once that was done, rather than just waiting, I went exploring.

I decided to dig through some of the non-web folders that were in my account on AlwaysWebHosting. Sure enough, I found a folder called sqlbackups. Hmmm…could this be of any help?

Help it was! In the folder I found a SQL file for each of my databases. It was really easy to open up the appropriate file, find the missing tables structure and content, and create a recovery file. I simply imported this file back into the database and everything was good to go!  I closed the tech support ticket and here we are!

So, what can we learn from how AlwaysWebHosting does business?

  1. Perform your backups religiously.  This will eventually save your bacon!
  2. Empower your clients/users.  AlwaysWebHosting solved my self-created problem without lifting a finger.  Basically , it’s the old give a man a fish vs. teach a man to fish scenario.
  3. Plan ahead.  Had AlwaysWebHosting not planned properly by putting all of these services in place in advance, things could have turned out a lot worse! Nothing takes the place of proper pre-planning!

So, thanks, AlwaysWebHosting for continuing to provide such excellent hosting and support.  If you need hosting for your blog or website, you owe it to yourself to check out AlwaysWebHosting.
