As you may have noticed, I have decided to integrate my tumblog into the regular mix within Daily Cup of Tech. Why did I decide to do this? There are a few good reasons:
- Good information. There is a lot of good information that shows up in the tumblog. Just because I don’t spend two hours writing about it in detail does not mean that it is not valuable. In fact, I often will revisit some of this information later and do some research.
- Low readership. I noticed that I had very few people reading the tumblog compared to DCoT. This is probably because I did not provide people with the opportunity to interact with the information. This has now changed.
- Quick posts. Many of the posts that I have on DCoT are rather long and wordy while the posts on the tumblog are short and sweet. I think these posts will provide a nice balance for readers.
Hope you enjoy the new tumblog integration.
If you found this post useful, why don't you buy me a cup of coffee to show your gratitude?

November 30th, 1999 at 12:00 amA post a day on a blog can be challenging to some, but easier for others. I do recommend to write quality content above all else. Find the frequency that works right for you. What I do not recommend doing is going to route of Daily Cup of Tech and doing mostly posts that are a few sentences long. If you are going to do a link blog, do it seperately.

July 22nd, 2007 at 5:02 pmI definitely do not enjoy the tumblog integration. Could you please generate an RSS feed without the tumblog as well as the combined feed?
I enjoy many of your posts, but this slew of tumblog posts either did not interest me or were things I had seen elsewhere.
Cheers,
Joe

July 22nd, 2007 at 5:22 pmSo THAT’S what happened! I was wondering what was with all of the short posts all of a sudden. Well, I like them - quick, to the point, and contain valuable information. I would, however, turn on the comments for those posts (if you can) - even though you may not get very many comments, it’d be nice to see if someone checked out the link and said “hey, I think xxx is better than what this link mentioned because…”

July 22nd, 2007 at 5:30 pmHmm, look like too short and often for me. I’m going to unsubscribe for now. I will be willing to resubscribe if you ever just have one Tumblog post a day sort of thing, or if I could just subscribe to the normal feed.

July 22nd, 2007 at 10:12 pmA few things:
@Joe - I am working on a no-Tumblog post feed for those who would just like to get the regular posts.
@Jared - All of the new Tumblog posts will have the comments enabled as they are posted and I will be turning on the comments for the older posts in the near future.
@Jake - Sorry to hear that you are un-subscribing from the RSS feed. The blast that you saw today was a one time only thing. You will not be seeing that all the time. It was just a matter of me importing all of the information from the tumblog. You will typically see at most three or four tumblog posts a day. Might I suggest that you give it a try for a week or so and then decide. Do not make your decision based on what you saw today.
Also, as I mentioned to Joe, I am working on a second RSS feed that you could subscribe to.
I do like your idea of a “daily digest” post for the tumblog. I’ll look into whether or not I could easily generate something like that for the system.
@Hazclan13 - Glad you like the changes. You are exactly the kind of person I was trying to reach with this change.

July 23rd, 2007 at 9:22 amI prefer quality to quantity and that has kept be subscribed in the past. The internet is mostly crap and I see DCoT as a filtered version - good stuff, ideas, etc found. So posts like the GhostWall post are dissappointing - paste-in of company ad script for an old firewall that has received some bad reviews (http://www.softpedia.com/progViewOpinions/14-3-112,.html)
I look forward to reading DCoT and so am looking forward to the no-Tumblog feed. That way everyone gets what they want - w/ or w/o Tumblog - what could be better.

July 23rd, 2007 at 11:15 amThe Tumblog posts are quick hits and good information. It should take you about two seconds, or much less, to determine if you are interested in the material and act accordingly. That’s the idea. It would be completely different if the guy was posting 100 posts a day on crap (can you stand one more RSS feed post on the iPhone?) So far, the DCoT posts are very much on topic and interesting. Want to see quantity vs. quality? Head over to Gizmodo, or even Slashdot. Even with their volume, I can get through Giz’s 100’s of non-relevant posts in about two minutes. I can find the relevant articles on Slashdot’s feed with ease. Figure out how to use your reader properly. And here’s a hint for all of you out there relying on Softpedia for your software reviews: Don’t.
