In short, proceed with caution. [via Daily Cup of Tech] [IMG][IMG] (via Lifehacker)

July 19th, 2007 at 7:02 amWhile the changes to the shutdown timeouts really make a difference (I don’t know why MS decided such long timeouts should be default), disabling remote control has little impact on startup times.
What mostly slows startup are all the applications people have in the multiple startup locations. Far too many applications add something to the startup, although they don’t really need it (like Acrobat for instance).
If you want to make a real difference go get Autoruns from Sysinternals (now owned by MS) and review the apps in the Run keys and the Startup folders. Autoruns will show you far more than that-it covers services and Browser Helper Objects (BHO) too.
Just be careful- some things you need at startup!
