Web Host Migration In Progress
Just a quick heads up to everyone that we are in the process of moving over to a new web host today. So, if things look or act a bit funky over the next few hours or days, it is probably all part of the transition to the new hosting server.
A HUGE “Thank You!” to Ronnie and the gang over at AlwaysWebHosting! They have generously offered to sponsor Daily Cup of Tech by providing us with hosting. Once again, DCoT readers have proven that they are as committed to Daily Cup of Tech as I am. If you are looking for some web hosting and would like to get the same great service as Daily Cup of Tech, AlwaysWebHosting is the place to be.
And, as if sponsoring Daily Cup of Tech isn’t enough, AlwaysWebHosting is also going to be giving all DCoT readers a $3/month off their bronze plan, $5/month off their gold plan, and $10/month off their platinum plan! That’s awesome, Ronnie! On behalf of Daily Cup of Tech and all DCoT readers, thank you very much!
So, please be patient with us over the next couple of days as we “move on up“!
If you found this post useful, why don't you buy me a cup of coffee to show your gratitude?

June 4th, 2007 at 3:06 pmI’ve been using AlwaysWebHosting since the beginning of the year. They have been a great low cost host. I have had a few issues, but they’ve always been resolved quickly.

June 5th, 2007 at 10:51 amJason, do you run any sites with databases? I’m on GoDaddy right now, and any page that needs to access the MySQL database has terrible loading time. Since my site is database driven now, this is becoming a severe pain. Seeing this “Render time: 14.1098 second(s); 0.4361 of that for queries.” at the bottom of the page is not uncommon. I have over a year left on my hosting contract, so I’m not in a huge hurry to move, but any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

June 5th, 2007 at 9:14 pmI have two sites with them, a wordpress and a postnuke site. Both use mysql. I’ve only had issues with the postnuke site and I think it was because of some bad code with a postnuke module (it was leaving open sql connections)
I don’t track the load times but I think my site is fast, can you enable the rendering time and include the query time with wordpress or postnuke?jb

June 6th, 2007 at 8:12 amI don’t have Wordpress or Postnuke. The above time in my previous post is what I routinely see when I check. Some days, it’s extremely fast, but most days, I see at least 6-12 seconds for the page to come up.
This happens with my main site, my coppermine section, but not with my plain html non-sql based pages.
I was not sure if it is simply bad code in e107 or if there are just long waits hitting the sql database.
