Ten PseudoTech Conversation Starters
As a typical computer geek, I have immersed myself into the tech community so much that I often find it difficult to talk with people about non-tech related subjects. At the same time, I know for a fact that people have difficulty talking with me because they feel that they can’t talk at my technical level about the things I am interested in. So, as a bit of a bridge between these two worlds, I give you ten conversation starters that are tech related but that everyone else can talk about as well.
- How rich is Bill Gates?
- Free antivirus software?
- Identity theft
- Credit card theft
- Keeping children safe on Internet
- Cyberbullying
- Online banking
- What’s on your iPod?
- Pedophiles using insecure wireless home networks
- Downloading music/movies debate
I believe the key is to find things that everyone else can relate to (i.e. finances, personal safety, family, etc.) and then find out where technology fits into the picture. You will suddenly have a topic that interested both of you.
How do you bridge the gap between tech and non-tech people?
If you found this post useful, why don't you buy me a cup of coffee to show your gratitude?

Once i throw those out there most people are willing to go on and on about their music or sweet apple mods or whatever they please. Once I get a read on what they are interested in I can guide the conversation to things that interest me. usually we end up in the middle somewhere with something to talk about.
I don’t know that I’ve ever actually talked about your #9 choice though. Seems like something hard to transition into, but one you’re there it would make a good convo piece.
