I have also been looking for something like this. The main concern for me was that it have a “resident shield” otherwise there is no point in having it.
Avast anti virus has a u3 version of there software, I feel that software vendors should not limit themselves to u3 but should make software that can run on any usb device. Be it a flash disk, iPod or portable HDD.

Sorry, just got Slax to boot on my USB drive here at work this morning before everyone got here and I’m jones to play with it more!
But back on topic, I’m blown away by the opportunity ‘PortableApps’ provides, a great site, I hope they continue to expand their offerings, I use PortableGaim everyday and PortableGimp at least once a week. (no install on the machine means the company can’t ’see’ it (as easily) since there’s no reg entry. Just install Cygwin, and drop the PortableApps into /usr/local — they haven’t found anything yet.

March 16th, 2007 at 9:11 pmLast I saw Avast! had a version out for U3 user’s. Sadly their are few “Full” fledge Anti-Virus programs usable on USB Flash Drives. What you will find alot of are Virus/Trojan removers, meant only for a few specified ones. Clamwin Protable is your best bet for using on any Non-Hardware related USB Flash Drives.
