USB Wordpress
Wordpress is the blogging system of choice for Daily Cup of Tech. I have been using it from day one. I find that is is very functional and flexible. It lets me be creative and yet works right out of the box. And I do not need any fancy tool set that I need to carry around with me all the time because everything is available to me online whenever I need it.
Well, not whenever I need it. I am definitely at the mercy of both my Internet provider and my web host. If either of them are not working properly for some reason, then I really can’t blog.
Enter the good old USB drive. Ralph.FM has a nice tutorial on how to install Wordpress onto a USB drive. This way, you can work on your blog from anywhere, even if you don’t have Internet access.
There are a couple of issues with this solution that still need to be addressed:
- Replicating the data between your USB drive and your public Wordpress installation. You will need to figure out how to get files and database entries synchronized. This may seem like a small thing but in reality, it’s not!
- Systems that are already running a web server and a mySQL database are going to have difficulty launching these services.
But, even with these shortcomings, this is really a cool idea. Good work, Ralph!
If you found this post useful, why don't you buy me a cup of coffee to show your gratitude?

March 15th, 2007 at 9:46 amWhat about WOS Portable (web on a stick)? Seen here: http://www.chsoftware.net/en/useware/wos/wos.htm. I’m using an older version where I manually installed the Wordpress, but the newer version of WOS has Wordpress preinstalled.

March 16th, 2007 at 2:39 amThis might be a stupid question, but why not just type your blog in Word or Wordpad and paste it later when you are online?
Seems like an awful lot of trouble to go to.
