Signup For Windows Home Server Beta
For those of you who have been following the Microsoft home line of products, you may be interested in getting your hands on the beta 2 for Windows Home Server. You can sign up at http://connect.microsoft.com/WindowsHomeServer.
At this point, if you are saying to yourself, “What in the world is this Windows Home Server?” you may want to check out some of these websites:
- Windows Home Server Blog
- Windows Home Server Preview
- Bill Gates Press Release for Windows Home Server
- Q&A: Windows Home Server Simplifies Digital Life for Families
- Windows Home Server will live in your closet, simplify your life
- Windows Home Server Fact Sheet
- Windows Home Server Backgrounder
Essentially, it is a small network device that can be used for backups, etc. that sits in your home but you do not use it as a regular day to day operating system.
I would really like to get on the beta list and see how it compares to FreeNAS!
If you found this post useful, why don't you buy me a cup of coffee to show your gratitude?

February 16th, 2007 at 11:43 amOh my oh my, not only can MS not get security right but now they want you to give them full access to your data from a web interface!, no thanks, I admit I do bash MS but I also use MS products at work and home, (I believe in the right tool for the job approach to my computing) this is not a good idea me thinks, I’ll stick with Freenas, it does what it’s supposed to without a lot of muscle to do it.
What worries me is I’ll probably end up having to help someone administer this type of system, so I’ll prolly have to try and get on the beta to try it out and understand it before someone around my area starts calling!!!

There are definitely a few websites you should check out if you’re interested; not the least of which is the beta sign-up page. Daily Cup of Tech: Windows Home Server

March 21st, 2007 at 9:36 amThe first time I heard of Windows Home Server was the first time I had visited your blog and I applied to become a Beta Tester that very day, not even knowing the full extend of what was in store for me. Now I have been accepted and after installing the product and using for a while I am already addicted. It has drastically changed the home office for myself and my 3 workers, 3 children and wife and lessened the security precautions I had to take to remain fully backed up. Thanks! This will be known to be a killer product for the Mom and Pop networks springing up throughout the neighborhood that you and I live in. After while you will lost without it, as were those that did not have a fax or email years ago.
