p1.pngEven though I am a raving fan of FreeNAS, there are definitely some limitations when it comes to hard drive partitions. In general, from the WebUI, you can only format a hard drive with a single partition and then share that entire partition. This is fine for a very basic configuration but if you want to create smaller partitions on a large drive, this becomes more difficult.

So, when I stumbled upon the tutorial How to partition hard-drives for FreeNAS, I was ecstatic. I knew that this was possible, I just did not have the time to go through and figure it out myself. This tutorial saves me the learning curve.

Once you are done with this tutorial, you will have the ability to create multiple partitions on each drive and then mount each of these partitions separately. Very cool!
