Open Source Security Proxy Updated
One of the recommendations that I made in 10 Ways to Protect Your Home Network was to have an internet filter on your network. One of my favorites for years has been Privoxy.
Privoxy allows you to block web content based on several different criteria including address and keywords. It can be set up to also work as a privacy proxy when configured in conjunction with the Tor network.
Now, be warned in advance that setting up a truly good Privoxy server is no small task but it can be well worth the effort.
Here are some useful Privoxy links:

- Installing Tor with Privoxy on Mac OS X
- Installing Tor with Privoxy on Linux
I have been using Privoxy for quite some time to filter out undesired content on my home network and recently I have added a second Privoxy service for anonymous Tor routing.
I highly recommend giving it a try. Don’t get flustered by the configuration file. If you take it one step at a time, it slowly works itself out.
If you found this post useful, why don't you buy me a cup of coffee to show your gratitude?
