The first article for FreeNAS Week is FreeNAS System and Skill Requirements. This article talks about the (very small) system hardware requirements and the skills that you will need to install and set up FreeNAS.

What really attracted me to FreeNAS is that I could pull an old piece of junk computer out of the closet, throw in some cheap hard drives, and I was ready to go! Plus, I could get Windows file sharing going in just a few minutes plus it provided me with an easy to use deployment of some more complicated and less used services such as rsync.

This is a good starter read for anyone completely new to FreeNAS and some of the services that are available on it. I hope you enjoy the article.

P.S. The memory and disk requirements are not a typo!
