Resist Temptation To Download Vista Via BitTorrent
There have been several sources on the internet today who are reporting that the torrent files for Vista are available to download the operating system. This is not surprising, especially in light of my earlier post, but I strongly urge you to resist temptation.
It is incredibly easy to track your IP address via bittorrent. You may think, “No problem, I’ll just use the Tor network.” This may seem like the answer but all you will likely do is slow down this already overtaxed system. And, there is no guarantee that this will actually hide your identity. From the Tor website:
…remember that this is development code—it’s not a good idea to rely on the current Tor network if you really need strong anonymity.
Just remember the whole Star Wars bittorrent fiasco that happened last year. I would be willing to bet that Microsoft is as diligent and Lucas Arts.

Anyone stupid enough to download MS Vista (and they live in a country where they are going to screwed over by M$), over BitTorrent is a little silly! And also deserves everything coming to them. This is a great test for some IT Security guys, to see what you are going to do with this. This version is probably loaded to the eyeballs with trojans etc…
Saying that, if I was living in Malysia, Russia or some other place where piracy/extradition laws are taken with a pinch of salt, I wouldn’t hesitate!!

November 14th, 2006 at 7:53 pmI’ve been following this a little bit. Seems that even if you did get it and manage to install it you are still limited in time. So about all you are really doing is getting yourself a time limited demo. I’m not saying do it or anything, just what I’ve found out.
The patch, which doesn’t seem all that easy to apply, appears to hack the necessary bits into thinking that the beta key you have will work. You still need a legit beta key and MS knows who they gave them to. My understanding is that this leaves the time limit in just like RC2 and before. -

Anyone else notice the irony of pirating an operating system that has extensive DRM at it’s base?
