Jason Kohrs of Big Bruin has written a very interesting article about creating a USB drive RAID system. Since, I am a bit of a USB drive nut, this really drew my interest.

Essentially, Jason purchased four USB drives and then attached them to a four port USB hub.

Next, he attempted to create a software RAID configuration within Windows (because, as Jason points out, there is no such thing as a USB hardware RAID controller). But, because Windows sees these as removable drives, it did not give him the option to create the array.

Linux, though, was a completely different story. Using the Logical Volume Manager, Jason was able to create the array and perform a series of test on it.

Definitely a very interesting article that I would encourage you to check out.
