Tweaking AutoPlay
I have had a number of loyal DCoT’ers indicating that their systems do not AutoPlay when they put their USB drives into their systems. Now, please keep in mind that AutoPlay is a relative newcomer on the computer scene and you will need to be running Windows XP Service Pack 2 in order for it to work on your system at all.
If your system meets all of these requirements, it is possible that you have AutoPlay disabled on your system. It is a pretty complex process requiring manually editing the registry and performing some mathematics in hexadecimal (no, not Hexadecimal) in order to get AutoPlay going. Fortunately, Microsoft has a free (yes, free) utility that makes the job a snap.
The entire process, and a nerdy video, too, is described in Configure AutoPlay With TweakUI.
If you found this post useful, why don't you buy me a cup of coffee to show your gratitude?
