USB Key Discovers Your Hardware and Software
A lot of amazing things happened after my article was dugg last week. The most impressive one was that there are a lot more people who are looking at this sight and telling me what they would like me to write about.
One of the suggestions that I received was whether or not I could figure out a way to create a USB drive that could dig through a computer system and record a bunch of things about that system. The answer to that question is “Yes!” and I have a complete walk-through of how to do this in System Auditor USB Key.
It is a ridiculously simple process, simple download a couple of files to a USB drive, plug it into another system, click OK and you’re done! Read the entire howto and get auditing in under 5 minutes!
Oh, by the way. If your USB drive costs $10, the entire project will cost you $10. The software is all free!
If you found this post useful, why don't you buy me a cup of coffee to show your gratitude?

October 24th, 2006 at 11:47 pmOf all the blogs I have read, this is the one I have enjoyed the most and have spent, literally, hours clicking through every link I see. It is so very refreshing to see someone who is here to share knowledge and observations without arrogance or on a power trip. Also, the quality of the writing, not the least its content is quite impressive and a delight to read and, consequently, learn so much in the process.
Many, many thanks, Tim for the endless hours you have so far spent sharing with us, strangers, your art and love for this field. It is in awe that I write this, because it is people such as yourself who inject others with the courage to learn and explore new horizons. Many of us might feel either intimidated by all this every changing technology, or just never had the time or opportunity to learn much.
I have had about 2.5 hours of sleep in the last couple of nights reading and trying to follow your instructions. I suceeded with some, and others are still in the “challenge” box. Needless to say, I am filled with excitement and am most eager to learn beyond what I every thought I could.
Your instructions are very well executed and clearly presented for the novice, such as myself, and for those with experience and exposure to this field. I have read everyone’s comnents and I get the general sense of the great respect and gratitude from your readers.
Excellent A++++++ Keep up this great work!

First, thank you for the time that you spend at DCoT and the extremely kind words. It is very easy to pop in and pop out of a blog without really leaving much of a track. But it takes real effort to sit down and leave a comment.Second, your comment came at a very good time. I’ve been feeling a bit stressed lately, primarily because I’m coming down from a “digg high”. When you see your numbers go from about 400 hits a day to suddenly 23,000, it’s pretty exciting! But, what goes up does come down and I’m sitting closer to 8,000 hits a day now.
When I compare the 23,000 hits to the now 8,000, it is pretty depressing. But, I need to keep in mind that I had 400 hits this time last week and I now am seeing 8,000 or 20x the hits I used to have. Something pretty phenomenal.
It was your comments that made me realize that it’s not only the hits that matter, its how I can help others with their technology journeys. Thanks for helping to bring me out of a pretty deep funk!
Tim
