Telemarketer Revenge
I generally do not post stuff like that as this blog is generally about technology but one thing that I do not like is telemarketers. And not for the normal reasons of them disturbing me or calling at poor times. What bothers me is the fact that they will often ask for personal information that they simply do not need or often are not legally entitled to ask for.
So, when I ran across this audio clip of a guy getting his revenge on a telemarketer, I couldn’t resist.
I must admit that I nearly wet myself when I was listening to this!
If you found this post useful, why don't you buy me a cup of coffee to show your gratitude?

October 18th, 2006 at 2:08 pmThat HAS to be the most awesome prank I have ever heard.
Reminds me of a time when I had some trouble with telemarketers a few years back at my old apartment. If I left my cordless phone off of the charger, the calls would eventually kill the battery on the phone, I was seriously getting -that- many calls.
I ended up using WinFax on my PC and recorded that ‘doo-dee-doo—The number you have dialed has been disconnected’ message from a number that I knew did not work, then I had had it play a fast busy signal for about 3 minutes straight. I told all of my friends what I was doing so they didn’t think I changed my number on them…
I set WinFax to play this message during my work hours, and then it kicked back to a normal message after that. After about 2 weeks of this, I never received another unsolicited marketing call ever again (this was before the do-not-call list). I think that is the most brilliant thing I’ve ever done (and I’ve not done many!).

October 18th, 2006 at 3:09 pmVery cool, Rob. How about the rest of you, any cool (read nasty) things that you have done to telemarketers?
Here is one useful tool that I found over on Lifehacker. It could provide some fun for those of you who have the time out there!

May 10th, 2007 at 4:43 pmWhat my wife has done twice, both times during supper, was simply put the phone down, and returned to the supper table and carried on with our supper conversation - without hanging up the phone. After about 1/2 an hour when we finished eating supper, she hung up the phone without a word.
I never laughed so hard in my life…

January 18th, 2009 at 12:38 pm[…] or purposely wrong replies? There may well be some who go a bit further like in this audio clip http://dailycupoftech.com/2006/10/17…keter-revenge/ (admittedly this refers to telemarketing rather than market research - but could easily be adapted) […]
