This week’s poll is about backing up data. How often do you do it?

We all know that we should do it. But it almost seems that people don’t really care (judging by the popularity of my one article about backups). Why is that? I would be interested in hearing your theories and/or reasons why you do or do not back up. Enter them into the comments below.

   I use SyncBack regularly:
   Nightly: All files I’ve worked on that day to a web-based backup
   Weekly: All most important files/folders to external harddrive
   Monthly: Full backup to an external harddrive

   I am also building a NAS and will use rsync to backup photos etc each evening!

   Thank for the encouragement. Always good to hear from other bloggers who are interested in my work.

   If you are looking at a NAS solution, might I suggest you check out the good people over at FreeNAS. I have used this solution for quite some time and it is extremely impressive.

   I built a complete backup ring for a company with three 750 GB FreeNAS boxes for around US$2000. They have automatic offsite backup with no fuss.

   If you are using Windows (which I assume since you are using SyncBack) and are looking for a relatively easy to use rsync setup, check out DeltaCopy. It is basically the rsync binaries compiled for Windows with a GUI interface. It supports both the rsync client and server but the client could use some work since it relied on the Windows Scheduled Tasks.
