Frequently, people will mention to me that they are not certain whether or not their home system is safe. When I ask them why they haven’t done anything about it, I usually get comments like:

I have nothing important on my computer for anyone to steal.

I just don’t know where to begin.

I can’t think of any way for someone to break into my system.

These types of comments come from one simple fact, most people just don’t know. No, you may not have anything on your computer to steal but what about your Internet connection. If someone connects to your unsecure WiFi connection and runs up a large Internet bill, what would you do? Or even worse, what if they were using your Internet connection for illegal activities such as accessing child pornography? Everything points back to you.

I have written an article called 10 Ways to Protect Your Home Network which provides you with an excellent starting point for securing your home systems and preventing yourself from becoming a victim.

Since this is a very high level article, I am looking for feedback from you, the readers. I need to know what parts of the article need fleshing out as separate articles so that Daily Cup of Tech can become a better resource. I look forward to hearing from you.

If you found this post useful, why don't you buy me a cup of coffee to show your gratitude?
